Save any public Reel to your phone or PC
Reels are Instagram's short vertical videos — the ones that autoplay in your feed. With SavePost you can download any public Reel as a standalone video file: perfect for watching offline, pulling into an editor, or keeping a clip that inspires you without staying inside the app. No login, no app install, and nothing uploaded to us.
To start, open the Reel in Instagram, tap the share icon, choose Copy link, and paste it above. SavePost resolves the Reel and shows a preview with a download button. Most Reels come back as a single MP4 file at the highest bitrate Instagram provides — no watermark, no re-encoding added on top.
Reels vs. regular Instagram videos
It helps to know what you are actually saving. A Reel is a short, full-screen, vertical video built for quick consumption; Instagram's regular feed videos are usually horizontal or a different format. The two behave differently:
- Reels are vertical (9:16) and short — up to 90 seconds — with editing tools, effects, and often a soundtrack.
- Feed videos can be longer and are typically horizontal, closer to what you would post on YouTube or TikTok as a regular clip.
- SavePost handles both, but a Reel link (
instagram.com/reel/…) resolves to the vertical video you saw — orientation preserved.

Where the file goes on your device
- iPhone / iPad — downloaded videos land in the Files app or your browser's Downloads; you can then save them to Photos.
- Android — clips land in Downloads (often under
Download/) and show up in your gallery. - PC / Mac — the file lands in your browser's download folder with a descriptive filename.

The saved video isn't in my gallery — where is it?
This catches people out more than anything else, especially on iPhone. A downloaded Reel is a normal video file, and it lands wherever your browser saves downloads — not always directly in your camera roll:
- iPhone / iPad: check the Files app (often under On My iPhone → Downloads) or Safari's download list. To move it to Photos, tap Share → Save Video.
- Android: check your Downloads folder; some gallery apps show it there right away, others need a refresh.
- PC / Mac: it's in your browser's download folder with a descriptive filename.
The download happens on your device, so we have no copy of it and can't restore it — if a file seems missing, re-run the download and watch where your browser saves it this time.
A note on watermarks
Some tools add a "Downloaded with …" watermark onto videos — SavePost does not. We hand you Instagram's original source file. If the creator's original already contains a watermark or platform handle, that's part of the source content and will be present in the download, just as it appears on Instagram.
What you can and cannot download
- Public Reels — yes, full video.
- Reels from private accounts — no. SavePost only fetches content visible without following.
- Reels that were deleted or set to private — no; if Instagram stops serving it, it can't be resolved.
- Live replays — no; those are handled separately by Instagram and aren't supported.
Troubleshooting a Reel that won't download
If a Reel fails to resolve, check: is the account public? Is the Reel still live? Did you copy the whole link? Network drops are retried automatically. For step-by-step fixes, see our download not working page.
