How to save an Instagram post
The whole process takes about a minute. Here is exactly what happens:

One link resolves one post — not an entire profile. A post is a single shareable unit: one photo, one video, one Reel, or a swipeable carousel. Why you should download instead of screenshot
Screenshots are the default fallback, but they come with real downsides. A screenshot of a photo stores whatever is on your screen — a carousel only lets you capture the slide currently visible, and videos can't be screenshotted at all. Screen recording on video adds file size without solving the carousel problem. A downloader gets the actual uploaded file, so:
- You get every slide of a carousel, not just the first one.
- Videos download in their original format instead of a screen recording.
- Photos keep full resolution, so zooming and printing stay sharp.
- There is no camera-roll clutter of screenshots mixed with your own photos.
Original quality vs. compressed previews
Here is a detail most downloaders get wrong. When Instagram serves a post in your feed, it often sends a compressed preview that is roughly 640 pixels wide — perfectly fine on a phone screen, but visibly soft when you zoom in, print it, or reuse it on a larger display. Many downloaders grab this preview and hand it to you as the "download", which is why so many saved images look blurry.
SavePost instead fetches the original uploaded file that the account posted. That means photos at their full resolution and videos in their original format. If you are archiving your own work, collecting references, or preparing anything to share, the original file is the copy worth keeping.

Only public content works — posts that anyone can view without following the account. Private posts,
expired stories, and deleted content cannot be downloaded, and SavePost does not try to bypass those
restrictions. Short links from Instagram's share sheet (like instagr.am/…) need to be
expanded to a normal instagram.com link before they can be resolved.
Troubleshooting a failed download
If a post does not resolve, the cause is almost always one of these:
- Private account. Only public posts can be downloaded.
- Deleted or unavailable post. The content no longer exists publicly.
- A wrong or truncated link. Make sure you copied the whole URL.
- Network interruption. Our tool retries automatically, and a fresh attempt usually succeeds.
