Desktop workflow
- Get a post URL — copy from the Instagram app on your phone (how to copy link) or from
instagram.comin a browser tab. - Open savepost.app in Chrome, Edge, or Firefox on your PC.
- Paste the link, click Download, wait for thumbnails.
- Click each item's Download button. The browser saves files to your default folder.
Where files go
- Windows — Usually
C:\Users\You\Downloads. Press Ctrl+J in Chrome to open the download list. - Mac —
~/Downloads. In Chrome, press ⌘+Shift+J.
Carousel posts show a numbered grid on desktop (720px layout). Save each slide; buttons turn Downloaded ✓ so you can track progress on large albums.
Why use SavePost instead of "Save image as"?
Right-click save on instagram.com often gives a low-res preview or blocked CDN URL. SavePost resolves the full-quality file and streams it through our proxy so the download completes reliably.

Browser comparison: Chrome vs Edge vs Firefox
SavePost works in every modern desktop browser, but download behavior differs slightly:
- Chrome (Windows & Mac) — Downloads appear in a bar along the bottom of the window. Click a completed file to open it, or click the arrow next to it and choose Show in folder. Chrome may ask permission when a site starts multiple downloads in a row — see "What if download is blocked?" below. Press Ctrl+J (Windows) or ⌘+Shift+J (Mac) to open the full Downloads page.
- Edge (Windows & Mac) — Edge is built on the same engine as Chrome, so the download experience is nearly identical. The main difference: Edge shows a download shelf that slides out from the right side of the window. You can pin it open to track multiple files. Edge also respects the same per-site download permissions as Chrome.
- Firefox (Windows & Mac) — Downloads appear as a downward arrow icon in the toolbar that turns blue when a file arrives. Click it to see the download panel. By default, Firefox asks where to save each file unless you have set a default folder in Settings. If you prefer automatic downloading to a fixed folder, go to Firefox Settings → General → Files and Applications and choose Save files to with your preferred directory.
- Safari (Mac only) — Downloads go to
~/Downloadsby default. Click the Downloads button (downward arrow in the toolbar, near the top right) to see recent files. Safari does not show a persistent download bar like Chrome, so it is easy to miss completed downloads if you are not watching for them.
What if download is blocked?
Occasionally a browser or security tool may interfere with a download from SavePost. Here is how to resolve the most common blocks:
- Chrome "multiple downloads" prompt — When you download several carousel slides in quick succession, Chrome may show a message: "This site is trying to download multiple files." Click Allow to let SavePost continue. This is a built-in protection against drive-by downloads and is safe to approve for a site you trust.
- Windows Security / SmartScreen — On Windows, downloaded image and video files rarely trigger SmartScreen. But if you see a "Windows protected your PC" warning after saving a file, it is usually a false positive for an uncommon file extension. You can click More info and then Run anyway or Keep.
- Browser site permissions — In Chrome, go to
chrome://settings/content/automaticDownloadsand make sure savepost.app is not blocked. In Edge, the setting is atedge://settings/content/automaticDownloads. In Firefox, check the Permissions section of the Page Info dialog (click the padlock icon in the address bar). - Antivirus or endpoint protection — Corporate or school laptops sometimes block downloads from "unclassified" domains. If SavePost is blocked on a managed device, try on a personal device or phone where fewer restrictions apply.
- Ad blockers — Some aggressive ad blocker extensions mistake the download flow for a pop-up. If downloads do not start, temporarily pause your ad blocker for savepost.app and try again.
Keyboard shortcuts that help
Power users save time with these shortcuts during the download workflow:
- Ctrl+J (Windows) / ⌘+Shift+J (Mac) — Open the Downloads page in Chrome or Edge. Use this to quickly find the file you just saved.
- Ctrl+V (Windows) / ⌘+V (Mac) — Paste a link into the input field without using the mouse. Combine with the Paste button if clipboard access requires a user gesture.
- Ctrl+Shift+T — Reopen the last closed tab. Handy if you accidentally close the SavePost tab while results are loading — your session is not lost; reopen and continue.
- Ctrl+D — Bookmark SavePost for one-click access next time you need to download Instagram content on your PC.
