Why an Instagram download can fail
Almost every failure falls into one of five buckets: the link isn't a post link, the post is gone, the account is private, you hit a rate limit, or the network dropped. The fix is usually quick — and the first step is reading the error SavePost shows, because each message points at a different cause. Below, match your message to the solution.
Error messages and what to do
SavePost shows plain-English errors. Find yours below:
"Please paste a valid Instagram post link."
The URL is missing or not an Instagram post. It must look like
https://www.instagram.com/p/… or …/reel/….
Profile links (instagram.com/username) do not work.
How to copy the correct link →
"Post not found. Check the link and try again."
The post may be deleted, the shortcode wrong, or the link incomplete. Open the same URL in a browser where you are logged out of Instagram — if it 404s there, SavePost cannot fetch it either.
"This account is private…"
Only public accounts are supported. If you do not follow the creator and cannot see the post in Instagram without logging in, download is not possible.
"Too many requests. Please wait a minute…"
You hit our rate limit. Pause 60 seconds, then retry one link at a time.
"Service temporarily unavailable…"
Our server's connection to Instagram needs a moment to refresh. Wait a few minutes and retry. If it persists, contact hello@savepost.app.
"Network error…"
Your device lost connectivity, or a VPN/firewall blocked the request. Switch Wi-Fi, disable VPN briefly, or try mobile data. SavePost automatically retries a failed connection, so a transient blip usually resolves itself.
Download button does nothing?
- Mobile Safari — Allow downloads; check the downloads icon in the address bar.
- Carousel — Each slide has its own button; save them one by one.
- Still stuck — Copy a fresh link from Instagram and paste again.
Quick checklist before retrying
- Re-copy the link from Instagram — don't reuse one from days ago.
- Paste the whole URL, including
/p/or/reel/. - Check the post opens in a private window while logged out.
- Wait a minute if you've made several attempts in a row.
- Switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data, or turn the VPN off once.
What SavePost can and cannot download
SavePost downloads public posts, Reels, and carousels. Private accounts, expired stories, and content Instagram has deleted are outside its reach — not because of a bug, but because the files aren't publicly available. When a download fails for one of those reasons, no other tool can do better with the same link.
