How to Copy an Instagram Link — Posts, Reels & Carousels

Q: Does Copy link work on private posts?

You can copy the link, but SavePost only downloads public posts that are visible without following the account.

Copy link on iPhone (Instagram app)

Open the post, Reel, or carousel — not the profile page.
Tap the Share icon (paper plane, below the caption on posts; on Reels, tap Share on the right).
Tap Copy link. Instagram copies a URL like https://www.instagram.com/p/… or …/reel/….
Switch to Safari or Chrome, open SavePost, tap Paste, then Download.

Copy link on Android

Open the post or Reel in the Instagram app.
Tap the Share icon (paper plane).
Choose Copy link or Link — wording varies by app version.
Open Chrome, go to SavePost, paste, and download.

Copy a link on a computer

On a desktop browser the link is already in the address bar. Open the post on instagram.com, click the address bar to select the URL, copy it, and paste it into SavePost. The web version also has a Share button with a Copy link option if you prefer using the menu.

Which link type did you get?

/p/ — a feed post (photo, video, or carousel)
/reel/ or /reels/ — a Reel, vertical short video
/tv/ — a long-form IGTV-style video

All three work in SavePost. The important part is that the link points at one post, not at a profile — a profile URL has no single file behind it.

Why the exact link matters

SavePost needs the precise URL of the content you want. A post link pins down exactly one photo, video, or album; anything fuzzier — a profile, a search result, a notification link — doesn't point to a downloadable file. The link you need is always one Share tap away, and once it's copied, downloading takes seconds.

If the Share icon is missing

On a few posts, usually older ones, the paper-plane icon is tucked into the menu. Tap the three-dot menu (⋯) and look for Share or Copy link there. On the web version you can always copy straight from the address bar instead.

Copying links from a shared chat

If someone sends you a post link in a message, the link you receive is the same one you need. Tap it to open the post, then copy it from there if you want a fresh copy. Links shared this way work in SavePost exactly like links you copy yourself.

Common mistakes

Profile URL — instagram.com/username is not a post link. Open one post first.
Story link — Stories expire and often fail. Posts and Reels work best; see our Story page for limits.
Truncated paste — Make sure the full URL including /p/ or /reel/ is pasted.
Messy share text — Instagram's share sheet sometimes adds extra text. If the paste looks wrong, recopy just the URL.
